Regulation (EU) 2024/2822 and Directive (EU) 2024/2823 of October 23, 2024 were thus published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on November 18, 2024.

The Regulation will take effect in two stages, depending on the amendments made: starting either May 1, 2025 or July 1, 2026.

Member States will be required to transpose the Directive within 36 months of its entry into force, no later than December 9, 2027.

L’article PATENT – WIPO TREATY ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, GENETIC RESOURCES AND ASSOCIATED TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE est apparu en premier sur Adelphe.

According to the EPO, this study is based on “data for 1,200 European universities that have generated patent applications at the EPO between 2000-2020.” It considers not only patent applications filed directly by universities, but also those done by other entities mentioning the names of researchers affiliated with these universities.

The highest performing countries in terms of the number of university patent applications are Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy.

In France, the Université de Grenoble Alpes holds the top spot over the reference period (2000-2020) with 3,348 patents, followed by the Université Paris Cité with 1,934 patents and Sorbonne Université with 1,808 patents.

In substance, the purpose of this treaty is that “a contracting State which allows or requires the deposit of microorganisms for the purposes of patent procedure must recognize, for such purposes, the deposit of a microorganism with any ‘international depositary authority,’ irrespective of whether such authority is on or outside the territory of the said State.” (Source: WIPO)

This treaty thus allows a patent applicant to avoid having to deposit a sample of the concerned microorganism in each contracting State selected for patent protection, and instead to deposit such a sample with a single “international depositary authority,” which is an entity capable of preserving it.

For information, the Budapest Treaty has 90 members and has been in force in France since August 19, 1980. The international depositary authority in France is the “Collection nationale de cultures de micro-organismes (CNCM).”

L’article MICRO-ORGANISMS – BUDAPEST TREATY – ACCESSION OF THE ORIENTAL REPUBLIC OF URUGUAY est apparu en premier sur Adelphe.

The 2024 rankings are based on 81 indicators of innovation and feature 133 competing economies (assessed according to their innovation ecosystem performance).

Once again this year, France has secured its spot among the top 20 most innovative economies, placing 12th in the rankings.

However, the leader’s spotlight remained on Switzerland who has maintained its grip at the top of the leaderboard for 14 years, ahead of 2nd-placed Sweden (runner-up also in 2023) and 3rd-placed United States of America (3rd also in 2023).

L’article GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX 2024 – FRANCE MAKES THE TOP 20 est apparu en premier sur Adelphe.

It is against this contextual backdrop that the Council of the European Union, on 10 October 2024, adopted the revised directive on the legal protection of designs and the amended regulation on Community designs.

The texts adopted are aimed in particular at improving registration procedures, harmonising European and national systems, and bringing the legislation currently in force in line with the era of digital designs and 3D printing.

The new texts will shortly be published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

The top five countries with the highest number of GenAI-related patents filed are China (38,210 GenAI inventions), the United States of America (6,276), the Republic of Korea (4,155), Japan (3,409), and India (1,350).

The DesignEuropa Awards include categories such as ‘Industry’, ‘Small and Start-up Companies’, in addition to the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ that recognises the most influential designers in the world of industrial design.

For 2024, DesignEuropa took on a new dimension by also honouring young emerging designers with the ‘Next Generation Design Award’.

This year’s winner of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, Dieter Rams, born in 1932 in Wiesbaden – Germany, was honoured for his long career of accomplishments in the design of functional objects (H1 Fan, FS 600 Television, Phase 1 Alarm Clock, L450-2 Loudspeaker, etc.). Dieter Rams and his team have already exhibited their creations internationally at various museums, including the Museum of Applied Arts (Frankfurt), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa-New York) and the Centre Pompidou (Paris).

Finally, the ‘Next Generation Design Award’ for young designers under the age of 29 was presented this year to Chiara Mignani, a graduate of the University of Genoa-Polytechnic of Milan and designer of eco-friendly yachts.
