YOUNG INVENTORS PRIZE 2024

As a reminder, the “Young Inventors Prize” created by the EPO in 2022, is awarded to inventors aged 30 and under. This prize is particularly aimed at ” innovators who innovate with a purpose and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “.

Topping this year’s rankings in first place is 29-year-old Rochelle Niemeijer (Netherlands), who was honoured for devising an ” AI-driven portable chemistry test kit that can quickly identify bacterial species causing common infections, such as urinary tract infections ” – Source EPO

In second place, 23 year old Valentyn Frechka, (Ukraine) was selected for his ” Method for transforming fallen leaves into sustainably made paper ” – Source EPO

Finally, and to complete the winners podium, third place went to the Tunisian team of  Khaoula Ben Ahmed, Ghofrane Ayari, Souleima Ben Temime and Sirine Ayari, for developing an ” Innovative smart wheelchair control system ” – Source EPO

As for the 2025 edition of the “Young Inventors Prize”, nominations are now open and candidate proposals may be submitted through the EPO website, by the deadline of 27 September 2024.
