The new geographical indication (GI) « Couteau Laguiole » has been added to the list of thirteen GIs already approved by the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), such as « Tapisserie d’Aubusson », « Pierre de Bourgogne », « Granit de Bretagne », « Porcelaine de Limoges », « Linge basque »… The INPI has approved the specifications for the « Couteau Laguiole » indication. This approval was published in the Official Journal n° 0221 of September 23, 2022 – Text n° 68.

It is recalled that “a geographical indication is the name of a geographical area or a specific place used to designate a product, other than agricultural, forestry, food or sea products, which originates there and has a specific quality, a reputation or other characteristics that can be essentially attributed to that geographical origin (…)”. – Article L721-2 Intellectual Property Code.

The management and the defense of the indication « Couteau Laguiole » are entrusted to the Association “Couteau Laguiole Aubrac Auvergne” (CLAA).

The approval of this name should thus reinforce its value and protection against unauthorized use.
