TOP 50 PATENT APPLICANTS IN 2023 (INPI)
On April 25, 2024, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) published the 2023 ranking of patent applicants, highlighting a notable increase of 5.6% in the number of filings from 2022, with 15,566 patent applications filed in France. These applications were primarily from French and foreign legal entities (88%).
The economic players occupying the top spots in this ranking are STELLANTIS, with 1,542 applications, followed by SAFRAN with 1,232 applications, and then VALEO, who rounded out the top three with 681 applications.
Public research is also strongly represented in the top 50, with 10 rated research and higher education establishments. The CEA (4th) and the CNRS (7th) both appear in the top 10.
As far as the main areas of innovation, mobility represents 46%, energy 12%, digital technology and telecom 10%, and health, cosmetics and/or chemistry 8%.
